Internship Program

KSW seeks smart, passionate, and community-minded interns who are eager to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit arts administration. The right candidates must possess strong oral and written communication skills, basic computer literacy, resourcefulness, and the ability to work well with people of diverse backgrounds.

Desired Qualifications

  • Pursuing a career in the arts or nonprofit administration

  • Two years of college or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated commitment to serving Asian Pacific American communities

  • Basic computer literacy

  • Previous experience relating to the position you are applying for is helpful, but not necessary

  • Ability to commute to and from our office in San Francisco (partial telecommute an option)


Internship Opportunities (Unpaid)

Time Commitment: 8–12 hours/week

Fall/Winter: August–February (Deadline to Apply: July 15)

Spring/Summer: February–August (Deadline to Apply: February 15)


Administrative Intern

  • Managing the donor database and pulling donor reports

  • Assisting with billing and payments

  • Assisting with grant reporting and filing

  • Drafting internal and external memorandums and procedurals

  • Maintaining equipment and supplies inventory

  • Managing facility use and rental requests

  • Checking voice mail and transcribing messages

  • Assisting the Executive Director as needed

  • Attending bi-monthly staff meetings

Community Engagement Intern

  • Researching and applying strategies for engaging audiences and maximizing program accessibility

  • Cultivating relationships with various community stakeholders

  • Managing ticket donations and cross-promotional partnerships

  • Organizing the community contacts list

  • Representing KSW at meetings, events, and online

  • Distributing information to the public

  • Creating mechanisms for internal and external evaluation of engagement initiatives

  • Attending bi-monthly staff meetings

Fund Development Intern

  • Researching prospective corporate sponsors to help underwrite program costs

  • Creating sponsorship materials and writing appeals

  • Conducting outreach to and managing correspondences with prospective sponsors

  • Cultivating long-term relationships with key corporate partners

  • Ensuring that fundraising sources and methods align with KSW’s mission and vision

  • Documenting and organizing processes

  • Assisting with fundraising campaigns, mailings, cultivation events, and special donation requests as needed

  • Attending bi-monthly staff meetings

Marketing and Communications Intern

  • Researching and developing content for KSW’s website, e-newsletters, social media, and marketing collateral

  • Maintaining KSW’s listserv, website, and Google Calendar

  • Managing the editorial calendar

  • Writing and disseminating press releases

  • Organizing the press contacts list

  • Maintaining the digital multimedia archive

  • Collecting press clippings

  • Creating simple graphics and layouts

  • Attending bi-monthly staff meetings

Program Intern

  • Assisting with planning, coordinating, and staffing events

  • Following up with artists and venues

  • Collecting program attendance, surveys, and evaluation data

  • Maintaining program tracking tools

  • Preparing monthly program reports

  • Organizing program files and archives

  • Recruiting and managing volunteers

  • Assisting the Program Manager as needed

  • Attending bi-monthly staff meetings
