Featured Readers: R. Zamora Linmark and Danny Thanh Nguyen
On Friday, September 27, KSW Presents “The Importance of Being Wilde At Heart,” a reading featuring R. Zamora Linmark and Danny Thanh Nguyen. This reading is the official Bay Area book release of Linmark’s new novel, a tender and quirky story of seventeen-year-old Ken Z’s journey through first love and first heartbreak that grapples with issues of bullying, coming out, censorship, empire, and militarism. Additionally, we’ll be celebrating Danny Thanh Nguyen’s work exploring the parallels of survival between Southeast Asian American refugee communities and queer leather communities in a post-AIDS epidemic era. What are the many ways we come out, and come together, as queer Asian American writers and artists? What is the place of queerness under empire? These are some of the questions we hope to explore in this reading.
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
We are opening up submissions for writers to be a part of this reading. We will only be able to accept up to five readers.
Eligibility: We welcome writers of all genres, and strive to spotlight those of the Asian Pacific diaspora and people of color. We are especially interested in showcasing emerging writers who have had little stage time or few publications.
At this time, KSW Presents cannot provide payment for writers who submit to be a part of this reading series, but we are actively pursuing funding for this program.
How to Submit: Submit work that explores this upcoming event's theme, that can be read or performed within 3 minutes or less.
