Around the Community | Born a Problem
Running through May 5th, 2024, we're also organizing a series of readings, workshops, and panel discussions that explore the themes of identity, displacement, and representation. Highlights include:
Apr 28: An opening reception in celebration of National Poetry Month that features readings from esteemed poet laureates: Ayodele Nzinga (Oakland), Kim Shuck (7th San Francisco), and Lee Herrick (California).
May 3: A panel discussion on the Politics of Belonging that features scholars of Southeast Asian culture and history: Dr. Jessica Elkind, Reuven Pinnata, Vincent Bevins (author of The Jakarta Method and If We Burn), and Dr. Viola Lasmana.
May 5: An erasure poetry workshop facilitated by Jason Wyman of Queerly Complex.
May 5: A closing celebration that features a special musical performance by Gamelan Sekar Jaya and poetry readings by all-Indonesian diaspora writers: Cynthia Dewi Oka, Giovanna Lomanto, Jeddie Sophronius, and May-Li Khoe.
