Remembering Crystal (Chris) K.D. Huie

photo by Bob Hsiang (Chris Huie at Pismo Beach 1976)

We’re saddened to hear about the passing of one of our “OGs”, Chris Huie. He was one of the early artists here at KSW and his photo documentation work has been essential in capturing some of this organization’s most important moments including the I-Hotel protests. Chris was an immensely accomplished artist earning fellowships from Rockefeller and NEA foundations, amongst others. His work documenting his experience growing up Chinese in Little Rock, Arkansas is preserved by the Smithsonian and here at KSW he was essential in contributing to the Angel Island exhibition and you can find his works in KSW the published photo books, Pursuing Wild Bamboo and Texas Long Grain. He will be missed.

We wanted to share Greg Soone’s moving tribute to Chris on AsAmNews which you can read here.

For those wanting to share their memories of Chris, you can contribute your stories here.
