Around the Community: Workshops, Call for Submissions, and other Opportunities
Bindlestiff Studio’s Stories High returns with Playwriting Workshop with Christina Ying
Dates: 8 Mondays, March 21 - May 9
Time: 6:30 - 8:30pm
Throughout this eight workshop course, students will create and study the structure of a ten-minute one-act play. We will use film and play scripts to analyze scene and story structure. With lectures, weekly assignments, and one-on-one consultation, students will grasp the fundamental concept of scene structure, character development, voice, and dialogue. Writing assignments are arranged to mirror a writer’s creative process, culminating in completing a ten to twelve-page submission for Bindlestiff Studio’s Stories High stage production.

Building Your Foundations is a four-week craft course geared towards developing and emerging poets (and those wanting a bit of a refresher). This class will examine the concept of voice and how we find it within our work. What are the questions we keep returning to? What are we searching for?
Each class will focus on a different set of principles that will help us explore how poems are constructed, including observation and discovery, musicality/form, and vision. It will also offer instruction on how to become a more confident reader in front of audiences and guidance for emerging poets who are trying to get their work out in the world.
