Help Us Fund Season 2 of We Won't Move
"We Won't Move: A Living Archive," is a timely, original, and necessary podcast from Kearny Street Workshop centering Asian Pacific American artists and activists across disciplines and generations. As the pandemic rages and structural violences continue to harm our communities, now is the time to discuss the power of cultural production, collaboration, and storytelling to catalyze change.
To understand and imagine who we are and where we come from is critical to resistance. Then the question of what could be, begins to shape our world.
Will you join us in this work?
The first season of the podcast is available now and can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and more. Season 1 features conversations with scholar and curator Thea Quiray Tagle, activist and historian Estella Habal, artist and educator Erina C Alejo, and artistic director Lenora Lee of Lenora Lee Dance.
The response to WWM has been heartening, truly touching, and inspiring. The conversations these episodes have sparked prove that the podcast is an important platform to grow. We must continue to ground ourselves in the historical significance of our art-making and organizing, while building the creative economies that give our imagination the space it deserves.
We’re dreaming of what more this podcast can do. For season 2, we’re fundraising for:
Interviews with the Bay Area's most inspiring APA artists and activists
An expanded Season 2 with double the episodes (8!)
Paying our volunteer producers and hosts a fair wage
Building internship and community partnership opportunities
Professional equipment to improve the podcast quality
Developing partnerships with Ethnic Studies programs (long-term goal):
We want to build a stronger educational support system to support next-generation APA artists and activists who are early in their careers. We're strategizing curriculum to go alongside our episodes, and working closely with local Asian American and Ethnic Studies programs
Will you help us on this journey? Will you help seed Season 2 of WWM today? Your support will go directly to our dedicated volunteer hosts and producers, among other critical supplies and expenses. Hosted and produced by scholar Kazumi Chin, multidisciplinary artist Michelle Lin, and art curator Dara Del Rosario, WWM is the result of their careful and dedicated planning, over years of preparation, guided by research, oral histories, and a deep love for our communities.
Anti-asian sentiment, imperialism, colonialism and racism is not new. It is a powerful time to educate and connect on these realities, but our communities are not a trend. “We Won’t Move: A Living Archive” is a project of knowing our roots—our struggles, triumphs, and dreams—while building toward a liberatory future. The work of liberating ourselves from capitalism and violence is long, but it does not have to be lonely.
