Message from KSW Staff
We are angered and grieving alongside you all today, and hope you are doing what you need to take care of yourselves and your loved ones.
There is no divesting yesterday's killings from the historical racism and violence directed at our communities and more specifically towards Asian women and sex workers. Anti-Asian sentiment and gendered, racial violence against Asian women must be placed in the context of US militarism in the Asia Pacific and America's racist project of settler colonial sovereignty and domination. We take into account the direct link between American political leaders and American media scapegoating China for COVID-19 and the goal of upholding US power through imperialism, the carceral system, and the military industrial complex.
We continue to support non-carceral actions when policing has long been used against Asian sex workers who deserve our respect and protection. Recent hate crimes and terror against our communities have been directed towards the most actively stigmatized: low-income, elderly, immigrants, sex workers. Let us continue building the work of community and power with this in mind, as these nuances are critical.
The links below are some critical organizations supporting Asian women and sex workers, and donate if you are able.
