Through the decades, CAAMFest has been a platform for iconic and emerging music acts. From Awkwafina to Jake Shimabukuro to Thao Nguyen. Continuing on this vibrant tradition, CAAMFest is thrilled to have Filipina American rapper, music producer, and spoken word artist Ruby Ibarra as a Spotlight honoree.
Featured in the docuseries ASIAN AMERICANS, Ruby raps in Tagalog, Waray, and English and her raps concern her cultural heritage and her experiences as an immigrant to the United States from the Philippines. We will be sitting down with Ibarra and explore her music career so far and what’s coming next.
Wednesday, May 20, 2pm-2:30pm PT / 5pm-5:30pm ET
After going through a traumatic sexual assault by an unknown man and quietly dealing with the consequences to his mental health, documentary filmmaker Drama Del Rosario begins to document his recovery process. But when his facade of happiness reaches a suicidal breaking point, he realizes how much his own mental health has affected the mental health of his boyfriend Chris. This rare personal documentary follows Drama’s year-long journey of sexual assault recovery—from confronting a witness of the sexual assault, to coming out about his sexual assault experience to his Catholic parents in the Philippines. It is an honest and unspoken story about rape culture from the perspective of a young gay couple. Join us as we speak to Drama about this powerful, new film and answer any questions audiences have about the topic.
Thursday, May 21, 2pm-3pm PT / 5pm-6pm ET
