Festival Workshops & Activities

All workshops and activities listed below will take place at the main event - Saturday, September 24th. Sign-up at apature@kearnystreet.org with the title of the workshop on the subject heading, or at the APAture merchandise table. Fees differ per workshop.

DJ Workshop with Celskiii and Deeandroid
1:00 - 2:00pm $3-5 sliding scale per person (no one turned away for lack of funds)
This workshop will include an interactive lesson where participants will get a taste of learning Hip Hop DJ techniques. Hands-on lessons cover DJing fundamentals; mixing beats, rocking doubles, and various skratch techniques. From the baby skratch to a double-click flare, participants will be able to see and hear the difference and also try these skratches out. Besides techniques, we will break down DJ equipment descriptions for a basic understanding of what DJs use to play and manipulate music.

Design a Tote Bag Workshop with Jane Chen
2:00 - 4:00pm $5 per person
Design your own APAture tote bag! No sewing experience necessary! Design and stitch your very own cloth handbag or tote bag using beautiful fabric scraps and vintage APAture tees. All materials provided. Space is limited!

Zine and Mini-Comics Workshop with Global Hobo
4:00 - 5:00pm Free of Charge. Donations welcome!
This one-hour marathon workshop will provide participants with all the knowledge needed to start their own zine or mini-comics (or both). We will be focusing on history of self-publishing, the creative process, printing and production, and distribution.

Tattooing with Jean Chen
6:00 -7:00pm $25 per person
Come get a tattoo from Jean and chat about pirate radio, Asian American issues, donuts, and pop culture.
